acquisitions

Perhaps it is our enthusiasm or it could just be a lack of experience that is making it hard to endure this slow process of getting quotes, seeking approval of the plans, applying for permits. All those banal things are slow and tedious making this process painful at times. We will not falter, we are still excited and keen to open our doors to a new beginning and a wonderful new space.
We are already planning our new audio tour. Using ipods we will guide the visitors through the galleries conducting various types of tours for diverse audiences. We have an exciting slate of exhibitions, including our opening exhibition which will allow for many treasures to come out of the collections room.
We also have finally completed the paper work for the transfer of the University of Manitoba collection to our museum. The collection from the former Hallway Museum is a welcomed addition to our existing collection as it includes a more broad range of artifacts to fully celebrate the diversity of our country and the clothing worn.
Sometimes one organizations loss is another gain. Sadly the Jewish Heritage Centre's Museum has closed it's doors. They had a wonderful space with a permanent exhibition and space for temporary shows as well. It was beautifully furnished with modern display cases and temporary walls, these will now find a new life in our organization. Our designer, Linda Levit of XYZ design is keen to reuse these furnishings as she designed them 10 years ago for the Jewish Heritage Museum. With all this talk of being more conscious of the earth and the use of materials it is a wonderful thing to be able to reuse these cases and walls.
